In this section, parents, carers, and loved ones can find helpful guides, tips, and resources to better understand children’s homes, support your journey, and stay involved in the things that matter most to you.

Top 10 Ways to Support Your Child’s Emotional Health
  1. Listen First, Talk Second – Sometimes children just need to feel heard. Let them share their feelings without interruption.

  2. Validate Their Feelings – Even if you don’t fully understand, acknowledge that their emotions are real and important.

  3. Keep Routines Steady – Consistency helps children feel safe and secure, especially during times of change.

  4. Encourage Expression – Art, writing, music, or play can be healthy outlets for big emotions.

  5. Stay Connected – Letters, calls, and visits mean a lot. Even small efforts remind your child that they matter.

  6. Celebrate Small Wins – Notice and praise achievements, no matter how small. Confidence grows from encouragement.

  7. Model Healthy Coping – Show your child positive ways to handle stress, like taking deep breaths or going for a walk.

  8. Promote Positive Friendships – Encourage healthy connections with peers who uplift and support them.

  9. Be Honest, but Gentle – Children value honesty. Share information in an age-appropriate way, without overwhelming them.

  10. Seek Support When Needed – If things feel overwhelming, reaching out for professional advice or support groups is a sign of strength, not weakness.

What to Expect When Your Child is in Care

Having a child enter care can feel worrying and uncertain. At Care and Support Services, we want families to know what to expect and how we’ll work together to support your child.

💬 Communication

  • You’ll be kept informed about your child’s wellbeing, progress, and important updates.

  • You’ll be involved in meetings and decisions wherever possible.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 The Care Team

  • Your child will be supported by trained staff who focus on their safety, education, and emotional wellbeing.

  • Each child has a Key Worker who builds a close relationship and provides one-to-one support.

📚 Daily Life

  • Children have routines that include school, meals, activities, and time to relax.

  • We encourage hobbies, friendships, and new skills.

❤️ Family Connections

  • We’ll work with you to maintain safe and meaningful contact with your child.

  • Visits, phone calls, and other forms of communication are supported wherever possible.

  • Your child’s safety and emotional health are our top priorities.

  • Clear safeguarding procedures are always in place to protect them.

Complaints and Concerns

We’re committed to creating a safe, supportive home for every young person—and we know how important it is for families to feel heard. If you have concerns about your child’s care, we encourage you to speak directly with the Home Manager. They’ll take time to listen, investigate the issue, and work with you toward a resolution.
